Chip and Cern get into their first collaboration! The boys are
happy to be partnering with Elemental Supply Co. The element that
Chip and Cern have is Platinum.
You might be asking, “Chip and Cern what is Elemental Supply
Co?”
Well glad you asked! Elemental Supply Co is a series of
collaborative collections inspired by the periodic table. Each
collection is inspired by a different element and features the work
of a different artist/maker. I started
@elementalsupplyco because
I wanted a clean slate to explore new visual design styles, share
the work of my peers, and experiment with new products. Working in
separate collections gives us the freedom to create an eclectic mix
of looks while still staying consistent to one underlying theme.
And, since elements make up literally everything in the universe,
the end results of each collection could be anything- from paper
goods to fashion accessories to podcasts to baked confections...
the possibilities are endless.
Here is where to find Elemental Supply Co on the
internet:
Chip and Cern know all about platinum, but for those of you who
don’t here is some more info from
Wikipedia:
"
Platinum is a
chemical
element with
symbol Pt and
atomic
number 78. It is
dense,
malleable,
ductile, highly
unreactive,
precious,
gray-white
transition
metal. Its name is derived from the Spanish
term
platina, translated into "little
silver".
[3][4]
Platinum is
used in catalytic
converters, laboratory equipment, electrical contacts
and electrodes, platinum
resistance thermometers, dentistry equipment,
and jewelry. Being a heavy
metal, it leads to health issues upon exposure to its salts;
but due to its corrosion resistance, metallic platinum has not been
linked to adverse health effects.[5]Compounds
containing platinum, such as cisplatin, oxaliplatin and carboplatin,
are applied in chemotherapy against
certain types of cancer.[6]
Platinum is a member of the platinum
group of elements and group
10 of the periodic
table of elements. It has six naturally
occurring isotopes. It is one of
the rarer
elements in Earth's crust with an average abundance of
approximately 5 μg/kg. It occurs in
some nickel and copper ores
along with some native deposits,
mostly in South Africa,
which accounts for 80% of the world production. Because of its
scarcity in Earth's crust, only a few hundred tonnes are
produced annually, and given its important uses, it is highly
valuable and is a major precious
metal commodity.
Platinum is one of the least reactive
metals. It has remarkable resistance to corrosion, even at
high temperatures, and is therefore considered a noble metal.
Consequently, platinum is often found chemically uncombined as
native platinum. Because it occurs naturally in the alluvial
sands of various rivers, it was first used
by pre-Columbian South
American natives to produce artifacts. It was referenced in
European writings as early as 16th century, but it was not
until Antonio de
Ulloa published a report on a new metal of Colombian origin
in 1748 that it began to be investigated by scientists.”
The Chip and Cern take on this element revolves around music.
When an album is “certified platinum” it means it has sold 1
million units. We took that a bit further and are making a playlist

Elemental Supply for your streaming pleasure:
Here is some thoughts on why Elemental Supply Co chose the
songs they did:
“Take It Easy” by The Eagles off of Their Greatest Hits 1971 -
1975
I learned how to do the Electric Slide in 6th grade P.E. The
song they had us learn it to was “Take It Easy” by The Eagles. Up
until that point, I thought The Eagles were the artists behind the
one-hit wonder “Hotel California.” So, for opening my eyes to about
a million other Eagles songs, this song will always have a special
place in my heart.
“Dear Prudence” by The Beatles off of The Beatles
My family and I took a lot of road trips. We listened to a lot
of The Beatles in our van on those long drives. I’m the youngest of
3 (spanning an 8 year age difference), so we were always each in
pretty different stages of life, but we all seemed pretty content
with The Beatles. Obviously my parents were pretty happy about it
too. I think that means that this music is truly timeless!
“Man! I feel like a woman!” by Shania Twain off of Come on
Over
From the opening riff to basically every second after that,
this song is deliciously, unapologetically kitsch in the best of
ways. I was 9 years old when it was released so it’s probably one
of the first songs about female empowerment that I ever
encountered. (Also pretty sure this song was in heavy rotation
during those middle school line dance sessions.)
“Long Time” by Boston off of Boston
In high school I drove a second-hand 1989 Mustang. Stick
shift. Hatchback. Navy blue with a powder blue stripe. It sounds a
lot cooler than it was. It had a 4-cylinder engine and would shake
violently if I pushed it above 70mph. Nothing made me feel cooler
than listening to ‘authentic rock n roll’ while cruising in my
‘stang. I was trying very hard to impress my older brother and his
friends. I was a huge dork.
“You Learn” by Alanis Morissette off of Jagged Little
Pill
Such a groundbreakingly angsty artist. This album came out
when she was 21 years old! I can’t get over that. It’s full of so
much life experience and feeeeeeeeelings. ...
Where did we go wrong? Too much of the Eagles? Let us know on
Twitter, Facebook or Instagram!
