Chip’s neighborhood had some break-ins and Chip got to used
one of his Nest Cams to do some detective work, pull together his
security footage, analyze the data and report to the po-po. Chip
spent a few hours one night putting everything together and put it
on his local
Nextdoor.com site.
Chip seemed to have his hopes hopes up on getting praise from
the community, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Instead
he got crickets. The post about people in trucks driving down a
certain street had 49 comments and likes. The bitching and
complaining is that of an old lady’s hairdressers.
Cern got booted from his Nextdoor at his previous app because
he would comment “who cares” when people are trying to boost their
numbers on their BBQ.
Cern has the Ring Doorbell and they have a feature where
people can post clips to their local neighborhood. The concept of
this feature is really cool, but Cern finds one that says “is this
your cat?” One solicitor rang the doorbell, but put his hand in
front of his face.
Chip walked a
beat on his neighborhood looking for more folks with
cameras.
A
quick tangent about Mapquest and when Chip printed out
driving direction to the closest Indian Casinos that
Chip, Joe, Cern, and Dana would drive to once in a while.
Chip’s dad found the directions when Chip was pissing and said
he had “one foot on devil’s door.” Cern also recalled a
story of when that Joe his a bear on the way to that same casino.
Chip has no recollection of this event at
all.
Cern’s Ring Cam
has really paid off because he can talk with the FedEx and UPS
people and they can do a verbal signature to deliver the
package. You can hang up on the doorbell as well, so
you don’t
have to listen to the full spill from the religious
group or magazine salesperson.
There is another Facebook group about each local community.
Both Chip and Cern’s wife are on these pages, but it is too
triggering for Chip and Cern to join in.
Chip and Cern read some Nextdoor highlights and just get
themselves worked up.
